My Experience
Background & Expertise
Advanced Scaffolder, MAS, Grootye Eylandt
May 2020 - July 2020
I joined the staff at Grootye as a member of a shutdown crew. Building and striping various work platforms while adhering to South 32's rigorous safety standards. I was then invited back to join the regular maintenance crew at Grootye. A result of my safety standard, work ethic and cohesion within the existing crew.
Advanced Scaffolder | Dawson's Engineering
April 2020 - July 2020
I joined Dawsons Group in a scope scope, planning and construction capacity. The firm engaged me to plan access solutions in remote locations. Gear lists had to be precise and man hours calculated meticulously.
Lead Rigger, Bolands Cranes
April 2019 – January 2020
I joined Bolands and was tasked within a crew running a tower crane at Noosaville. From cutting of ground to the final pour at level six I was instrumental in the smooth and safe lifting operations on site. Coordinating with concrete pumps, utilizing Preston's and dogging into non line of sight loading bays for six months with my team. We had no incidents and navigated hazards from source electrical surges to bushfires.
Rope Access Technician
March 2019 – April 2019
Working on the Gold Coast on the Jewel high rise project our crew was tasked with performing sealing operations to the structure’s internal venting systems. The work required multiple deviations through the ducting and I became well versed in non line of sight rope operations.
Rope access rigger, GeoVert
May 2018 – March 2019
This role involved slope stabilisation works at the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing. Rigging up and installing mesh, drilling nails, concreting and rolling mesh. Works involved scaling, hand drilling, grouting nails and all works were on vertical or 45 degree faces.
Subsequently I was employed as a Rope access rigger at Queensland Aluminum in Gladstone, I engaged in lifting operations concerning pipes, turbine super structures and sections under dual lifts. Fitting of blinds, hydro blasting and grinding welds were among other duties. QAL demanded the highest degree of safety, process and documentation.
Leading Hand Scaffolder | Unispan
Jan 2017 – Apr 2018
I relocated to Toowoomba for the Second Range Crossing, a viaduct construction requiring specialist skills and equipment. I managed modular scaffold lifts, dual lifts and complicated rescue planning.
Within the role my team would select exact gear lists from our satellite yard for delivery onto the difficult terrain afoot the bridge pillars. From here modules were constructed, spliced up to 9m in height before being crane lifted some 70m onto our towers to service the jumps. Bracing was to engineered standards and had to be exact. Tie removal and re-fitting to accommodate the lifting of the jump was also an exercise in precision where my team excelled.
I enjoyed the project and became interested in the role of Rope Access Technicians.
Hire Controller- All Safe Platforms
Oct 2014 - Dec 2016
I joined All Safe as a Scaffolder and shortly after took on a role as leading hand, taking on on the quoting, work scheduling, stock control, truck roster as well as coordinating man power day to day. I would also work on site most weeks to ensure crews hit their KPI’s. I generated new customers and reduced sign time variations through careful pre-planning at quote stage. It was a steep learning curve but through thorough planning and systems creation the company increased in both profit and efficiency.
Leading Hand |Thyssenkrupp Safway
Jan 2008 - May 2010
I traveled to Canada and gained employment with the multinational company “Saf-way”. My systematic work method and attitude to safety saw me promoted to foreman. My crew was therefore routinely utilized on jobs where public safety was a factor.
Bio
Personal Profile
Hard working- Whether it’s grafting at the base with the “groundies” or topping out safely, I understand what it takes to be a valuable team member. I never let myself or the crew down.
Exact- “If it’s not written down, it doesn’t count”, I take extreme care with all aspects of organization. Utilizing tools such as Google Calendar in conjunction with my iPhone helps
to make sure nothing is missed.
Systematic- Having a system is imperative when handling multiple projects, a complicated pro-
ject or both. Planning workflow and scheduling this makes tracking performance easier.
Salesmanship- Through running my own business and work in sales roles I have honed the art of customer satisfaction. Whether I am speaking
to a foreman generating further sales leads or troubleshooting a necessary alteration, the ability to sell a solution is golden.
Perfectionist- I am the kind of person who will not accept “close enough”.

Towers-Pylons-Ski Lifts
During my time in Canada I was deployed to a number of rural builds involving towers. I worked under Safway, alongside Poma and other specialist companies to construct ski lifts, transmission towers and aerials. I was highly regarded due to my willingness to climb, attitude to safety and perfectionist radio etiquette.

My Skills
What I Do
100% precision
In the high risk industries you only ever get one chance. Planning, communication and teamwork are vital in the way I undertake my work. For this lift we utilized multiple spotters and established a control hierarchy through the stages to ensure our rig cleared the numerous hazards.
Constant Self Education
I have never worked on a crew or met an operator that I didn't learn something from. Be it a new method of "pull through", (as i'm being shown above) or a safer path to run rope. It always pays to share knowledge and ideas.
A head for heights
Working in a high risk arena can mean having to manage yourself as much as the job at hand. Having confidence in your gear, your team and your plan greatly reduces stress and allows you to focus on the work. By self rigging this 180m drop with multiple redundancies it afforded us that extra peace of mind.
Outside the box
Having slung a variety of structures in a range of environments I've collected numerous techniques and methodologies. Collaborating with the team and exploring any advantages can increase both safety and efficiency. This job at Garden Island saw us utilize a scaffold frame and eliminated the need for a complicated dual lift.
The way of the carpenter is to become proficient in the use of his tools, first to lay his plans with true measure and then perform his work according to plan. Thus he passes through life
